Shadows and Magic and Robots, Oh My! [Closed]

Warnings: Possible violence, probable swearing.
Location: Right outside the mall.
Characters: Aaron Barnett, Peridot
When: Three days after meeting Daniel.
Summary: Aaron attempts to lure Peridot to the dark side.

He'd spent the days after meeting the techie cripple and his familiar from hell in a deepening rut of anger. Black gunk gathered steadily on his skin, and no matter how many times he wiped it off it still came. His saliva, too, coating his mouth and turning the once-pink gums black. He wondered if the same had happened to his blood.

Not at all surprisingly, the native residents of Freesia cleared out quickly as soon as he walked down the street. He didn't want to go back to his apartment just yet-- not at all, especially if he would get the gunk on his semi-new mattress. So that saw him wandering aimlessly, which saw him coming near the mall (and seeing someone very strange.

Now, strange usually meant Lux. But she-- she? Didn't have the look the others he'd arrived with had. She still looked a little green (ha.) If he could whittle down their numbers (not by attacking-- recruiting, a voice in his head whispers, all the better.

"Hey! Are you new here?"

Everything in this town was a menace. An annoying, annoying menace.

Her weapons were gone, she was trapped in a bubble with her greatest enemy, she had no allies, and worst of all, no work. Nothing useful to do. And she's been nothing but harassed when she attempts to make her own.

So she was in no mood to be bothered by whatever random idiot human. A random idiot human who who seemed to be covered in black gunk. Apparently this was a common human ailment.

"Do I LOOK like I belong in this stupid town?"

She made a noise in the back of her throat that managed to convey pure irritation, annoyance, and aggravation all at once. She narrowed her eyes at him, holding her hand up to say stop right there, gunky.

"Of course it was! I'd never have come here by my own volition!"

Maybe it was just a human thing to stand around and make stupid comments on things that were blindingly, suffocatingly obvious.

"I suppose you can call it that. Gem magic from centuries ago was more advanced then this nonsense."

She took a step back and sneered, forming her blaster to point at the sky.

"If you wanted to be generous, you could call it healing magic." She pointed her blaster at him. "I am told it can be dangerous to my enemies if I learn how to use it."

"Ugh, if that's what you consider 'really old.' My people can't die from aging, and I suppose that makes a difference."

Humans are so fragile and they rot so easily. It's so strange, the ideas they have of what's "old." Never mind that she herself is extremely young by Gem standards.

She's not completely opposed, if her expression is anything to go by. "...What do you mean? What sort of magic?"

"Augh!" She stumbled back from the shadow pillar, suddenly sensing that she might be in trouble.

"Those things have been trying to kill me since I arrived! Are you telling me that you're one of them?"

"I'm not scared of you," or so she insists, "but I don't understand! I haven't received an adequate explanation for anything since I got here!"

Except that maybe her magic might actually hurt this guy. A little. So she keeps her blaster out and pointed at him. She attempts to work out a few questions, until she decides that specifics might be the wrong tactic.

"So just WHAT is going ON?!"

"You joined them then." He joined them and they stopped attacking him. Well...yes. Fine. Logical. It checked out.

"But they must have told you something. What are they? What do they want?" Peridot can't read human moods well enough to gauge when they aren't normal, but being covered in shadows? That was a more obvious tell.

No, it wasn't good, and she should have run perhaps. But Peridot hesitated.

What was she doing really? Running here and there trying to avoid Rose Quartz, trying to swipe electronics, eek out a pathetic little existence while everyone around her tried to kill her and while she tried to fight them off with a little bitty healing ray?

Whereas here...Yes, there might a trade-off involved, but what did she care for the war she'd been dumped into? What was at stake but the life of her most hated enemy? What did she need right now more than a weapon?

"If they truly are effective...than show me."

Peridot don't care

She did.

She smiled.

"Impressive. I didn't even hear it form!"

How perfect would it be for distracting, for sneaking up on, for silently destroying her enemies? What else could she do with this power, if only it were hers? The opportunity seemed practically golden.

"...And how does one obtain this power?"
